Please review the following information to help prepare for the new school year.
Eligibility for Service
To determine if your child is eligible for transportation services, you may use our Transportation Eligibility Finder
by entering your home address and your child's grade. The results will indicate if your child is eligible for service. If your child is within the walk area of the school, the walking path used to calculate the distance from home to school will be displayed.
Specific Transportation Arrangements
On Monday, August 20, 2018 the secure parent portal will open to retrieve your child's specific transportation arrangements for the new school year including; bus stop locations, times, route numbers and the name of the service provider of your child's transportation. You will need your child's Ontario Education Number (OEN) which you can find on your child's report card to sign-in to the secure parent portal.
New Process for Kindergarten Transportation
The traditional practice for NSTS is that when NSTS determines a student is eligible for transportation by policy, transportation is automatically assigned. This practice will continue for students in Grade 1 through 12. New students entering Kindergarten for 2018-19 living in the school bus zone will need to notify NSTS of their intention to use the bus. In early July, NSTS will mail a letter to affected families to invite them to log-in to the parent portal to opt-in to morning and afternoon transportation services, or to opt-out. NSTS will also receive this information over the phone or via email.
Students that have completed the opt-in process will be assigned to ride the bus effective their first day of school. Students that have not completed the opt-in process, will not be permitted to ride the bus until this process is complete. It takes three days to assign transportation service once a family opts-in.
First Ride at the Pen Centre
Sharp Bus Lines will be offering the First Ride program this year at the Pen Centre Saturday, August 25,2018 from 10am to 5pm and Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 11am to 5pm. Parents wishing to attend this event are encouraged to book an appointment time with NSTS directly via email, firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone, 905-346-0290.
Moving or Changing Daycares
To ensure NSTS plans transportation for your child correctly, please make sure you update your child's pick-up and drop-off address information with your child's school before the end of this school year.
NSTS is not permitted to accept address change information from a source other than the school; however, our office is open in the summer and if you notify your Transportation Coordinator of an address change, we will make sure a stop is available for your child for the first day of school. When schools re-open for the new school year, you will need to provide them with the updated address information before NSTS can officially assign your child to transportation.
